1. I recognize that kids play mainly because it is fun. Along with coaches and
parents, I, too, have an obligation to keep it fun.
2. My integrity is my most important asset. If a spectator questions my calls or my
integrity, I will respond calmly and let the coach know or if it is the coach, issue a
warning. I should not get into an argument directly with the adult.
3. If the spectator comments become abusive or profane, I will immediately tell the
coach that I want the offender removed from the premises.
4. If the coach is becomes abusive or profane, I have the right to expel the coach
from the game and the premises. The league should then deal with punishment.
5. A player's poor conduct should be handled the same way. If it is not severe, give
a warning. If it becomes worse, expel the player from the game.
6. I of course will try my best to accurately officiate the games. I of course will
make mistakes as everyone watching does. Most of those complaining about your
calls don't know the rules of the game. But even if they do, they should be
respectful to set a good example for the kids.
7. Most of the calls adults think are wrong are actually right.
8. If there is a fight, follow the rules of the league. You almost certainly have the
right to suspend the game.
9. Your major responsibility is the safety of the players. Don't allow any behavior
that may compromise safety.
10. If your league allows, explain calls to young players to help them learn the game.
11. Don't develop a negative attitude even if the adults and players do. It may be
difficult but demonstrate that you will not lower yourself to their level. You will
be respected for that.
12. Have fun!!
